Laughing Crow At Whistmans Wood

Inspired by one of my favourite places, this panel is made using earthy colours to depict the wood and moorland where it grows. The wonderful gnarled oaks and lichen covered stones are home to legends of druids and phantom dogs. An amazing place.

Eliza rowed her boat every day to take a basket of food to her Grandmother who lived alone on an island. She met a handsome Merman on her journeys and they were soon to fall in love.

They wanted to be together but she did not want to live in the sea and he did not want to live on land.

Her Grandmother was a Sea Witch and as she listened to the girls problem she came up with a solution.

The spell could only work if the two were truly in love but with all parties eager to try the Witch prepared the transition at the setting of the sun.

Soon the couple were transformed into Eagles so that they could spend their lives together in the sky.

 There was a Mermaid, not that long ago, who wished to see the night sky. So one bright evening she surfaced above the waves to gaze at the face of the beautiful moon and stars. Whilst she lingered in awe at the loveliness of the white jewels in the sky a fisherman sailed past her, taking home his catch.  She was smitten by the man and his sea songs that rang out above the sound of the surf.

She followed him home and to let him know of her love she turned herself into a hare and left him love letters and gifts in the brambles near his home. She asked the magpies to guard her treasure until he found it...'Seven for a secret never to be told...'
